In our first year as a non-profit our members’ donations, some $15,000 in all, helped keep our doors open. THANKS!

Do I have to be a member to see movies?
Nope.

Why is the Moxie a non-profit?
Changing our tax status allowed us to apply for grants, accept tax deductible donations and partner with a wider range of community organizations such as the Library and Sister Cities.

What “cause” is it supporting?
Great cinema in Springfield! We screen independent and foreign films that otherwise would never come to town, support local filmmakers, provide innovative kids programs, and host movie series that explore the history of film from silent era classics to “The Shining.”

I already pay for tickets. Why should I join?
First off, thank you! Keep coming to see movies. However, 35 to 60% of the money from each ticket goes back to the studios. Over the last year, we paid around $70,000 to “rent” films. The proceeds from ticket and concession sales alone cannot support our operations. Besides, as a “Family” member (or higher) your popcorn is free.

Any new perks?
Yes! All members get free admission to any of our regular Saturday classic screenings. For each showing, individual members get one free ticket. Family members (and higher) get two.

So how can I donate?
We have four membership levels. The tax deductible portion of your donation is shown in brackets.

• Individual ($100): $6 ticket price (for one person); 50 cent popcorn [$100]
• Family ($250): 10 free tickets, $6 ticket price (for two); free popcorn [$190]
• Producer ($500): 20 free tickets; $6 ticket price (for two); free popcorn [$380]
• Director ($1,000): 50 free tickets; $6 ticket price (for two); free popcorn [$700]

Checks should be made out to the Downtown Springfield Community Cinema Fund and can be dropped off at the Moxie during business hours or mailed to:

Donors also can give online at the Foundation’s website where they will need to specify the Downtown Springfield Community Cinema Fund.
