Ten years after the collapse of society, the rule of the law has disintegrated and life is cheap. Eric (Guy Pearce) travels the desolate towns and roads of the outback. When a gang of thieves steals his car they leave behind a wounded Rey (Robert Pattinson) in their wake. Forcing Rey to help track the gang, Eric will go to any lengths to take back the one thing that still matters to him.

"All you really need to know is that The Rover is a modern Western that explodes the terms good and evil; that its desolation is brilliantly rendered by Michôd and cinematographer Natasha Braier; that Pearce and Pattinson are a blazing pair of opposites."
- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"Bleak, brutal and unrelentingly nihilist, and with only sporadic flashes of the blackest, most mordant humor to lighten the load, it feels parched, like the story has simply boiled away in the desert heat and all that’s left are its desiccated bones. In a good way."
- Jessica Kiang, The Playlist
"In revealing two men trying to get in touch with the shreds of their shared humanity, [director] Michôd offers a startling vision. You'll be hooked."
- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
"Fusing a hybrid of quasi-apocalyptic influences into a work with a pungent character of its own, The Rover suggests something like a Cormac McCarthy vision of Australia halfway between today and The Road Warrior times."
- Todd McCarthy, Hollywood Reporter
