Do the Right Thing (1989)
Q & A with Kelsey
What do you love about this film, and why do you want to share it with others?
I studied this film heavily in high school for a senior project and it made me completely fall in love with Spike Lee’s style of filmmaking. It’s a masterclass in acting, cinematography, and storytelling, and it feels devastating that this film remains topical after so many years. Spike is a genius and I think everyone in the world should see this one at least twice.

Why are you a Moxie staffer?

I have met the coolest people who have introduced me to pieces of media that I never would have discovered otherwise. The Moxie has the best community and the best popcorn in town :)

What is your favorite Moxie memory?

There are so many I could mention, but the first that comes to mind is the showing of The Red Shoes that we had in 2025. I worked it, but I took a few minutes to watch from the side hallway, and something about that film and that crowd made it so magical. The entire crowd was completely locked in and it just reminded me why I love my job and why I love movies :)

Q & A with Saskia
What do you love about this film, and why do you want to share it with others?
I love the sparseness of the dialogue and narrative, it contrasts a lot of modern movies/content and I think it makes you interact with the movie in a different way!

Why are you a Moxie staffer?

I love being part of a community of cool artsy people!

What is your favorite Moxie memory?

One of the first shifts I worked, (with Zaida! RIP) was our free Moxie Flix showing of the Wizard of Oz. It got super hectic but it was fun to just be thrown in the deep end, I felt like I was in The Bear!

Q & A with Ezra
What do you love about this film, and why do you want to share it with others?
I love how Hedwig and The Angry Inch is queerly tantalizing and unapologetically morose. I find this movie to be So glam and So punk, and soundtrack of Hedwig’s journey resonated with me while in the depths of discovering my gender identity and self-confidence.

Why are you a Moxie staffer?

The Moxie is a place of learning and appreciation for me. I can say with confidence that there’s at least 100 movies I would never have seen or even heard about if I didn’t get to spend so much time there.

What is your favorite Moxie memory?

There was a debut screening of a short film that was of a family reunion, and everyone in the family packed into theatre 1 to watched the seven minute flick not once but twice. It was such a pure moment of togetherness that I felt honored to witness, and getting to watch the beautiful movie from the projector room gave me chills (they also tipped us very well, which definitely did not hurt <3)
